As the automotive industry moves rapidly toward sustainable and innovative transport solutions, FEV.io partnered with a leading truck OEM to facilitate the rollout of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV) for the European market. Leveraging a structured systems engineering approach, FEV.io provided turnkey solutions to enable efficient development, deployment, and compliance with new regulatory standards.
The OEM required a comprehensive Software and Electrical/Electronic platform to manage and synchronize multiple Electronic Control Units (ECUs) essential for the next generation of clean-energy trucks. FEV.io was entrusted with designing an adaptable and regulation-compliant platform that would support both BEV and FCEV technologies, alongside connected services for continuous software updates.
FEV.io employed a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodology to ensure a cohesive and harmonized specification across all levels, from vehicle-wide requirements down to component specifics. By emphasizing traceability, reusability, and regulatory compliance, FEV.io crafted a modular architecture that could adapt to evolving industry needs and safety standards.
FEV.io took charge of developing five domain-specific ECUs and a central gateway, essential for managing and coordinating the diverse vehicle functions.
Conducted a thorough gap analysis of all hardware and software controllers to ensure alignment with new safety and security regulations.
Applied MBSE to harmonize the specifications at every level, ensuring a consistent design process from the overall vehicle level down to each component.
Defined a scalable software controller architecture designed for optimal reusability, thus reducing development time and costs.
Established a comprehensive test and validation strategy, managing and conducting rigorous assessments to ensure platform reliability and compliance.
Defined a cloud-based setup for connected services, enabling seamless and secure software updates across the platform.
Through these efforts, FEV.io enabled the truck OEM to achieve a scalable, modular SW/EE platform that complies with stringent safety and security standards.
The project’s traceability from vehicle to software level ensures that regulatory requirements are met at every stage, while the architecture-neutral specification offers future flexibility for adding new features.
FEV.io’s structured approach not only accelerated the deployment of BEV and FCEV trucks but also set a new benchmark for systems engineering within the commercial vehicle sector.
