Introduction

The vehicle industry is experiencing a rising number of autonomous driving functionalities. These systems rely on sensors and complex algorithms that can lead to a hazard even when functioning as intended.
With the release of the ISO 21448 in 2022 car manufacturers can address the risk arising from automated driving functionalities properly.

Background

FEV.io was contracted to define the process of ISO 21448 for a german OEM. This includes the description and modelling of all tasks and subtasks from item to element level. Interfaces to supporting processes were identified and modeled accordingly. To ensure that the work products from ISO 21448 fit to the OEM internal processes, templates have been created, reviewed by the engineering domains and released.

Approach

In an agile environment, FEV.io participated with 5 engineers to tackle the workload in biweekly sprints. Tasks included modelling of the workflow in a web based tool, identification and evaluation of interfaces, creation of templates and review sheets as well as presenting the workflow to the engineering domains of the OEM. A review has been conducted by the engineering domains in order to release the process.

Impact

  • The process has been released internally to enable the OEM to focus on the development of autonomous driving functions.
